Vipul Raheja is a Research Scientist at Google DeepMind, working on Gemini. Before DeepMind, he was an Applied Research Scientist at Grammarly, where he developed robust and scalable approaches centered around improving the quality of written communication, leveraging Natural Language Processing and Deep Learning. His research interests lie at the intersection of large language models and controllable text generation. Prior to that, he worked at a New York-based startup, x.ai, where he built a conversational AI scheduling assistant and developed end-to-end entity extraction and classification models and pipelines. In his past life, he obtained an MS in Computer Science from Columbia University, where he worked with Prof. Luis Gravano on identifying sources of food-borne illnesses from social media reviews. Before that, he received a dual degree in Computer Science and Engineering from IIIT Hyderabad, where he worked with Prof. K. S. Rajan on modeling spatio-temporally evolving processes, such as food-borne illnesses. He has published several papers at top-tier conferences in Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing. He has served as a reviewer for ARR, ACL, NAACL, EMNLP, AAAI, JAIR, ICWSM, and several workshops at ACL, NAACL, and EMNLP. He is also an organizer of the In2Writing Workshop at ACL 2022 and CHI 2023. He has been an avid open-source contributor and has participated in the Google Summer of Code program, serving as a committer to numerous open-source repositories, including the Open Source Geospatial Foundation.
